Gold Calculator Canada
Estimate your gold’s value in Canadian dollars using today’s 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K rates.
How to use the gold calculator
Enter your gold item’s weight, then pick the unit: grams are the global standard, the tola (11.6638 g) is the traditional South Asian unit widely used by Canada’s South Asian community, and large bars are priced in troy ounces (31.1035 g).
Select the karat stamped on your item. 24K gold is 99.9% pure and used for investment bars and coins such as Royal Canadian Mint products; 22K (91.6%) dominates traditional South Asian jewellery; 18K (75%) is the harder alloy used for diamond-studded designs; and 14K (58.5%) is the standard for everyday Canadian high-street jewellery.
The value is your weight in grams multiplied by today’s per-gram rate for that karat. Note the result is the intrinsic melt value of the raw gold only — it excludes the making charges a jeweller adds and the sales tax charged on those making charges (5% GST in Alberta and the territories, 12% in BC (5% GST + 7% PST), 13% HST in Ontario, 14.975% GST+QST in Quebec). For the full shop price, use our jewellery cost calculator.
Rates come from our market feed when available; otherwise clearly labelled indicative reference rates are shown with the last-checked time in Eastern Time (ET). Figures are estimates, not financial advice.
Q1. How is the gold value calculated?
We multiply your item’s weight (converted to grams) by today’s per-gram rate for the selected karat. The rate comes from our market feed when available, otherwise from clearly labelled indicative reference rates.
Q2. Does the calculator include making charges or sales tax?
No. This tool estimates the intrinsic melt value of the gold only. Retail jewellery also carries making charges plus sales tax on those charges — 5% GST in Alberta and the territories, 12% in BC (5% GST + 7% PST), 13% HST in Ontario, 14.975% (GST+QST) in Quebec. Use our jewellery cost calculator for the full shop price.
